If you've ever dialed 911, enjoyed a documentary film, or received a Polio vaccination, you’ve benefitted from philanthropy. Foundation dollars from the New York metro region—home to the largest concentration of philanthropic capital in the world—play a critical role in finding, supporting, and sustaining programs that address crucial societal needs.
“30 Grants in 30 Days” profiles some of these exemplary initiatives from the last three decades. As part of our 30th anniversary, Philanthropy New York is pleased to showcase the incredible reach of our members—starting on April 8th, 2009, we added one story to this site each work day for 30 days. While just a small sample, these stories offer a glimpse into the many ways funders are making a difference in our community and around the world.
Because we received many more than 30 nominations, our Selection Committee (comprised of members) chose those that were, above all else, innovative and impactful, and also sought to represent the diversity of our members and the projects they support.
